One of the best ways for a pet owner to stop dog aggression is to begin the socialization process with the dog is a puppy. Exposing dogs early and often to other dogs and letting them spend time together and play together will help your dog see that other dogs are not a threat.

It is important, if at all possible, to stop dog aggression as soon as you see the first sign of it. If a dog is allowed to be aggressive on a continuous basis, it will be more difficult to break him of the habit. If the dog is at all dangerous be sure and use a muzzle or head collar until the pet can be trained and the behavior is eliminated. Do not use this as a solution, only as a temporary fix.

By working with your dog and training him to follow your command, you can stop aggression when it arises by giving your dog a command, such as “sit”. If he is busy following your command his attention will not be on the person or dog toward which he is being aggressive.

This also gives the dog a way to deal with his anxiety. As the trainer, be sure you also remain calm. Dogs are very good at picking up their owner’s vibes. Keep treats on hand to reward your dog every time he follows your command and modifies his behavior in a positive way.
